CobraNet Inputs

Purpose

CobraNet Inputs provide entry points for a signal off of the network. Each block of 8 inputs represents one network channel being transmitted on the network. Connected input devices consume DSP resources however any inputs left unconnected will be automatically discarded when the system is compiled and will not consume DSP resources.

Inputs contain integral DC blocking filters. The DC filter rolls off at 6dB/octave beginning at about 1Hz. There are no controls associated with these filters.

Note: Inputs devices may not be duplicated in a system. If two devices receive signals from the same input, both devices must be wired to the same input device either directly or through a Distribution Amplifier device.

Input Levels

BoB inputs operate at nominal input levels of either +4dBu or -2dBu, determined by jumper settings inside the BoB. When a nominal level input signal is applied to an input (assuming a +0dB Input Level control setting), it will register as +0dB on an RMS Meter device connected to the input.

+20dB of head-room is provided on the BoB inputs. The input will not clip until a signal greater than +24dBu or +18dBu (depending on jumper settings) is applied. Clipping occurs at the analog to digital converters. There is no visual indication when clipping occurs at an input.

Controls

Channel

The network channel the input is listening to.

Channel LED

Indicates that the Channel is being successfully received

Level

Allows the input to be attenuated or boosted.

Note: Because of the head-room available in the digital domain, it is not possible to produce digital clipping even at extreme +12dB settings of this control.

Mute

Mutes the input.

Receiving LEDs

Indicates that the particular audio channel is contained in the network channel

Resolution

Audio Resolution of the received network channel.
