Peak Meter
Purpose
The Peak Meter measures zero to peak signal level. This meter is useful for measuring the dynamic range of a signal. Use a Peak Meter when adjusting levels through a signal path to accurately indicate the head-room available. A separate Peak Hold Indicator bar on the meter indicates the maximum peak level that was reached over an adjustable or infinite time period.
Note: Digital clipping in the MediaMatrix system occurs at +35dB on the Peak Meter. The BoB outputs clip at +23dB on the Peak Meter.
Controls
Infinite Peak Hold
When activated, the Hold Time setting is defeated. The peak hold indicator will hold its value indefinitely or until a higher peaking reading is registered.
Meter
The meter indicates the peak signal level. A lighted bar extends from the bottom of the meter to the current peak signal level. A narrow peaking indicator rides above this reading when the Peak Hold Enable button is enabled.
The meter display is divided into three color segments. Green indicates that the level is below the nominal +0dB. Yellow indicates that the signal is making use of the head-room provided between +0dB and +20dB. Red indicates that the level is above +20dB. A peak signal exceeding +23dB, if wired to an un-attenuated Output device will clip at the output. Peak levels of up to +35dB can be handled in the digital domain without clipping.
Peak Hold Enable
Enables the peak hold bar indicator.
Peak Hold Time
The Peak Hold Indicator is reset when this amount of time passes after the last peaking reading was registered.
Signal
Numerically indicates the signal level displayed on the meter.
Note: Meters cannot measure signals levels below -35dB. The signal indicator will read -35dB when the signal level is -35dB or below.
