Room Combiner

The room combiner device is used to selectively combine multiple sound systems (using individual AutoMixers in each room), into larger sound systems, that are comprised of multiple individual room sound systems. This is particularly useful in applications like hotel meetng/conference/ballrooms, where you often have individual rooms seperated by movable walls. In many instances, these walls can be folded back, making a large room out of two (or more) smaller rooms, for larger events. For example, you may have four rooms in a row, with three movable walls seperating them. You could combine rooms 1 and 2, rooms 2 and 3, rooms 3 and four, or all four rooms into a single large ballroom.

You select which rooms are combined by means of the Room Combiner Device control panel (child window), which provides four main choices.

All Rooms Combined

This combines all of the rooms into a single large room

No Rooms Combined

This turns off any combining, and returns each room to it's normal state

Mute All Rooms

This mutes all inputs on all of the automixers used in each room

Wall Switches

Pressing this button opens the Wall Switches Control Panel (child window). In this window, individual combine switches are provided for linking multiple individual rooms. For example, pressing the first button shown below combines rooms one and two, the second button rooms one and three, etc. Multiple buttons can be pushed to combine more than a single pair of rooms. In order to work however, the view file MUST be compiled, and you must be in Control Mode.

It is possible to build phsyical wall plates that mirror this control panel, by using Control Grouping to link an individual combine switch to a BoB or CABOB control input, for connection to a physical switch panel in each room. You could even send back status information (to drive an LED) by using control grouping and the BoB or CABOB control outputs.

The picture below shows the device and its control panel, and the child Wall Switches control panel.

In order to use the Room Combiner device, it must be connected to individual AutoMixer devices AND to an AutoMixer Linker device, as shown in the view file below:

For applications where you wish to introduce a signal delay between rooms to aid in alignment, use the Room Combiner With Delay device.
