Hardware failure has been reported. What do I do now?
If a hardware error is detected during the compile process, the compile will be halted, and an error message displayed. While the system is running, it always checks for a hardware error. If one is encountered, an error message will be displayed in a text box that reads "Hardware Failure Detected - System Muted", and the system will mute, and thus stop passing audio.
The reason the system mutes, is to prevent any ugly digital noise from coming out of the BoB's or CABS, which could potentially harm loudspeakers, to say nothing about the consternation it would cause to all within hearing distance of the amplification chain. Should this occur, there are a few things to try:
Run diagnostics, to see if this was a momentary glitch that shut down the system, or an actual failure on a DSP card.
Open up the MediaMatrix mainframe, and reseat the DAB cable. An improperly seated card or DAB cable will cause this message. For a discussion on DAB cables, click on the preceding link.
The terminating resistors have not been placed on the first and last DSP cards. discussion on termination resistor packs, click on the preceding link.
Check the terminal window to see what type of failure has occurred (Kernel halted, etc.). Although it is outside of the scope of this document to itemize every potential form of failure, this information can be very handy when you call Peavey Customer Support at (800) 543-2991, (601)-483-5365, or (601) 486-1154 (FAX).
