Labeling Devices

All labels on devices may be changed by typing over them.  To type over a label first select the desired device or devices.  Next just type the new label and the old label will disappear and be replaced with the new label.  If multiple devices were selected, the new label will appear on all selected devices simultaneously.

If you only want to change part of a label use the backspace key to delete characters one at a time starting with the last character.  This is useful for numbering devices.  An example would be where you have five compressors and you want to label them as COMPRESSOR-1 through COMPRESSOR-5.  Rather than retype the entire name five times simply select the first compressor and type BACKSPACE next type "-1".  Next select the second compressor and follow the same procedure but type" -2".  Repeat this process for the remaining three compressors.  By using the cursor keys you can select each device and perform this process without taking your hands from the keyboard.  It is also possible to change device labels from the Object Properties Dialog Window.  See the section of the help file on the Object Properties Dialog Window for more information on this topic.

You can make the label more than one line by typing Ctrl+ENTER at the end of a line.  As you type, the label will continue on a new line.

You may find that you want to make the devices a certain physical size.  This could occur if you have several devices in a row with different length names.  The devices would all have different dimensions and my not present the uniform physical appearance that you want.  The easiest way to change the size of a device is to first change its Graphic Properties to be resizable.  If you now move the mouse (in edit mode) over the right or bottom of the device, the cursor will change to the 'resize' cursor.  You can now click and drag the device to the new desired size.  By holding the shift key while dragging, the resize operation can be limited to only vertical or horizontal.  Once the device is the appropriate size, change its Graphic Properties to 'Locked Size'.  This will keep the device from accidentally being resized while being moved in edit mode.  The size of a device box can be fixed through the Object Properties Dialog Window.  The Object Properties Dialog Window permits you to make numerous adjustments to the appearance of the device including several text options.  This section of the help file discusses a simple method of changing labels by typing over.  You may also change labels via the Object Properties Dialog Box.  If you want to make more substantial changes to the look of the device refer to the section of the help file discussing the Object Properties Dialog Box.
