Privilege Levels
As any consultant and contractor knows, one of the biggest problems with any system is unauthorized tampering. MediaMatrix provides several different methods for locking out unauthorized users. This includes: multiple access levels of privileges, password protection of blocks, and the ability to password protect nested blocks (parent-child windows).
Depending on which level you assign to users, they will be permitted various levels of access, and various main menu options ranging from no access other than logging on a new user, up to system design.
Privilege Levels
There are five privilege levels available, that give users access to various levels of MediaMatrix. They are:
Other
This privilege level only allows you to Log on a new user, and see whatever is displayed on the top level window of the system (meters, master levels, status displays, etc.). No adjustments to the system can be made, and the system cannot even be shut down.
Twiddler
This privilege level is intended for basic systems operation. It allows the user to log onto the system and to view whatever window is open, and to adjust the system settings. It also allows the "twiddler" to remotely log on to the system for monitoring purposes. It does not allow them to change view files, or shut down the system. It is the highest level of security. If you have controls you don't want this user to have access to, then hide those controls in a block with a password, and only provide those controls to the user you want them to have access to (see section below for instructions on how to do this)
Operator
This privilege level permits the user to log onto the system and to adjust controls as well as to monitor the system. Additionally, you can select whether or not they can: shut down MediaMatrix, change the current view file, run hardware diagnostics, access the terminal window, and change the terminal window options,
Supervisor
A Supervisor has the same level of access as an operator with two additional features. The Supervisor can edit the user list to add or delete users, change their passwords, and change the system options
Designer
The designer privilege level provides access to all MediaMatrix capabilities and features. Unlike the Supervisor, the Designer can modify the view file. Note that a block that has been password protected is not accessible to a Designer without the correct password (see the block object properties section of this help file for more information on password protection of a block design). This prevents anyone without a password for that block from seeing the system design as well as gesturing controls not visible.
